Kagame retires a number of officers, including the previous police chief Gasana

According to the Rwanda National Police (RNP), six police commissioners and a number of other officials have been given the go-ahead to retire.

Three police commissioners—Emmanuel Butera, Vianney Nshimiyimana, and Bruce Munyambo—as well as Commissioner General Emmanuel Gasana, who is currently the governor of Eastern Province, are on the list of retirees that was announced in a statement on Wednesday, September 27.

Prior to his retirement, CP Butera served as the commandant of the Mayange Counter Terrorism Training Center. The Commissioner of Community Policing was Bruce Munyambo.

Damas Gatare and Privat Gakwaya, two assistant commissioners of police, have also retired.

The other five senior officers have all held various commissioner-level positions, with the exception of Gasana, who has held the position of Inspector General of Police in the past.

According to the police statement, the President also gave his approval for the retirement of 60 non-commissioned officers, 28 junior officers, and five additional senior officers.

According to the statement, six police officers were fired for a variety of reasons, and seven police officers were forced to retire on medical grounds.
