Dr. Valentine Uwamariya, Minister of Education, will formally launch the regional East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) games on August 19 in Huye district, Southern Province.
The competition’s 20th edition, set for August 17-27, 2018, returns to Rwanda after a two-year absence.
Around 3000 EAC delegates from Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zanzibar have already arrived in Huye to compete in the 20th edition of FEASSA.
Athletes from nationally recognized school teams from all participating nations compete in two games.
Football, basketball, netball, handball, rugby, hockey, athletics, badminton, lawn tennis, swimming, and goalball are among the 13 sports in which they participate.
The tournament aims to create the “East African Spirit” among participants by allowing secondary school students to visit to various areas in East Africa and engage in athletic events.
The FEASSSA Games have been held yearly since 2001, alternating among all EAC Members with the exception of 2020 and 2021 because to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Rwanda is ready to host the numerous delegations from each and every delegation.” “From border clearances to accommodations, both Rwandan teams and we are ready for the competition,” said Aaron Rurangirwa, deputy president of the Rwanda Schools’ Sports Federation.
Ecole Musambira, Adegi Gatsibo, St Joseph Muhanga, Apaer Gasabo, ITS Gasabo, GS Marie Rene, St. Mary’s Kitende, and St. Bernadette Secondary School represent Rwanda.
